The Uyghur silk Fabric (Atlas)

In Xinjiang, West China (formerly Turkestan) – the women like to wear hyper-colorful tie-dyed patterns that make them stand out like a peacock.

Ancient tie-dying techniques are used in the manufacture of this flowery design, where in places like Khotan are made using local cocoons, natural dyes and narrow loom. The local name for this kind of cloth is

“atlas”

in the local Uyghur language, and is usually made into wall hangings and women’s dresses.
